A Halloween Party is a great opportunity to build school spirit or be a great fundraiser.
You can sell tickets to the event complete with games, pizza, costume contest, scavenger hunt, Halloween games, and tricks and treats. You may also find that this is an opportunity to get local businesses or school boosters to donate a few items for drawing giveaways.
Consider the following ideas that can make your Halloween Party special.
Halloween Party Ideas & Activities:
You can have multiple categories including Most Creative Costume, Coolest Costume, Best Couple Costume, Best Group Costume, and Best Team Spirit Costume. You will need to select judges, determine prizes for the first, second, and third places. It would also be a good idea to make sure you get photos to use for a newsletter or to post on social media regarding the success of your event.
The Halloween Scavenger Hunt is a great activity for a party. The age of the participants will play a significant role in the type of scavenger hunt.
If your hunt is high school or adult age participants, you may want to consider The Halloween Scavenger Hunt Clues, Curses, and Spells. This is a unique party game that goes beyond your typical scavenger hunt game and combines all the fun of a murder mystery party game (minus the murder, lame scripts, and complicated setup), treasure hunt and scavenger hunt together to create a very popular hunt. When guests arrive, they will each be given a rule sheet and will be shown the first scavenger hunt clue. This clue is a letter that explains the storyline of the game (click here to read). The story goes that there was once a witch on this land (the place where you’re hosting the party) and that her spirit is trapped here. She was once known to leave terror in her wake by casting humorous curses on others just for her entertainment. Now she’s up to her old tricks, this time as a ghost! Someone must put a stop to this madness, but trying may lead to guests getting cursed themselves. Participants will divide into teams, and then are given an allotment of money for the game, and go off to search for the rest of the scavenger hunt clues that will help them figure out how to banish the witch from the world forever. This game is printable and can be purchased for $14.99 from PartyGamesPlus.com.
If you have younger participants (age 7+), you may want to do the Halloween Treasure Hunt. Here you hide the clues and then watch the fun begin. The hunt can be played anywhere because you pick the hiding places. In this hunt, players work together to solve the clues. Each clue is a fun brainteaser centered around all things to do with Halloween. Each clue has a numerical answer. When the players figure out the answer they locate that number on their clue locator sheet. The clue locator sheet is numbered 1- 30, and you write down all the hiding locations before the game (you only need 10 hiding places, the rest are all decoys). When they find the correct hiding spot, they will find another clue. This continues until they complete all 10 clues and find the winners certificate, you can also choose to hide a fun treasure at the end as well. This game is printable, and you can purchase it for $13.99 at PartyGamesPlus.com.
There are several Halloween theme games for you to consider:
You will need a big ball of yarn. Players will stand in a circle and toss the ball of yarn to one player, who holds onto a piece of yarn and then throws the ball of yarn to another player. Continue over and over until everyone is holding some yarn. You will have created a spider web!
Test players' teamwork as they try to untangle their strands of yarn to get to their prizes. You’ll need several skeins of yarn in a variety of colors. This is very time consuming to set up but fun to do for a Halloween kid party. You’ll need to set it up in an area away from the rest of your party because you won’t be able to use this area at all until the string hunt is over. To set up, make a starting point for a string of yarn. Then thread the yarn all over the available area. Loop around, over and under objects, with a note or prize at the end. Create a string of yarn that loops around for each player. You don’t have to have a different color of yarn for each player, but it is nice to at least have a few different colors to help players be able to tell their strings apart from each other.
Play this game just like charades, but use Halloween items such as monster, cat, witch, pumpkin, etc.).
Place a couple of gummy worms on a paper plate. There should be one plate for each player. Be festive and get black and orange plates. Now you will want to cover the gummy worms with a mound of whipped cream. Be generous, a huge mound. Have players find the gummy worm(s) while keeping their hands behind their backs. This game is a crowd pleaser with plenty of laughs. Make sure you have ample towels and plastic trash bags for cleaning.
You’ll need an apple for each player. Players race on hands and knees while pushing apples with their noses to the finish line.
You will want to get supplies for making a scarecrow. You will then hide the supplies for making a scarecrow around the party area, On your command to start teams will run to find the items they need and build their scarecrow. The first team to build a scarecrow wins!
This game will require a timer, candy corn, and two plastic trick-or-treat pumpkins. Divide your participants into two teams. Each team will stand behind the start line. The goal is on “Go” each team will try to toss there candy corn into the pumpkin. Whichever team gets the most candy in the pumpkin in two minutes wins! Another variation is to have a team member hold the pumpkin and try to catch as much candy corn as possible.
Create some Bingo game cards that have Halloween images instead of numbers. Have someone draw for images (instead of numbers) and use candy corn or candy pumpkins as markers, and when someone gets a bingo, they should yell “BOO!”
